Mina had a special gift.
Her grandmother gave her a small, silver mirror on her tenth birthday.
"This is no ordinary mirror," Grandma whispered.
"It can show you what will happen tomorrow."
Mina's eyes grew wide. "Really?"
"Really," Grandma smiled. "But remember:
the mirror shows what might happen, not what will happen."
"You still need to make your own choices."
Mina didn't quite understand, but she was excited.
The next morning, Mina looked into the mirror. She saw herself falling off her bicycle.
"Oh no!" she cried. "I won't ride my bike today!"
But her friend Lily was waiting outside. "Come on, Mina! Let's ride to the park!"
Mina remembered the mirror. "I can't. I might fall."
Lily laughed. "So what? Falls happen. That's how we learn."
Mina thought about it. She wanted to ride. So she went anyway—and didn't fall at all.
The next day, the mirror showed Mina failing her math test.
"I won't study," she decided. "It's going to fail anyway."
But then she remembered Grandma's words: what might happen, not what will happen.
So Mina studied hard. And guess what? She got an A.
Week by week, Mina began to understand. The mirror wasn't always right.
